As I review the Code of Ethics for Direct Support Professionals I stop to ponder the code of Integrity and Responsibility. That code is about supporting the mission of the profession of direct support, support persons to lead self directed lives, support partnerships with the people that I support and the community.
What does that entail
- does that mean that I support persons to do what ever their requests are no matter what it is I am being asked to do.
I don't think that is the meaning at all. I think it is about doing what your supervisor asks for the benefit of the person served. To develop those community connects, to include ALL people in ALL the activities possible to get to the GREAT life that we as DSP's profess we will do, if we dare to call ourselves a direct support PROFESSIONAL!
Where does the code of refusal enter in? Nowhere in the DSP Code of Ethics.
